Best AI Tools for Coding Interview Prep in 2026

By the DevInterview.AI teamPublished August 5, 2026Updated October 15, 2026

AI changed coding interview prep in two honest ways and one dishonest one. Honest: you can now do a realistic spoken mock interview on demand, and you can get instant expert-level review of your practice code. Dishonest: real-time copilots that whisper answers during live interviews, which violate most companies' policies and collapse the moment you depend on them. Here is what is actually worth using in 2026, by category.

Disclosure: we build DevInterview.AI, and this is our site. Every price was checked against vendor pages on September 30, 2026, with sources at the bottom.

1. DevInterview.AI: the full interview, not a chat window

A coding interview is a conversation with code in the middle. DevInterview.AI reproduces that: a live voice AI interviewer, a real editor with execution, company-tagged problems, follow-up questions and pushback while you work, then an evaluation across problem solving, code quality, language proficiency, and communication. Practice mode adds AI code evaluation on 2,600+ problems outside full interviews.

Pricing: $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year, unlimited interviews. First one free, no card. Limit: it will not replace human judgment for final calibration; nothing AI does yet.

2. interviewing.io's AI Interviewer: the best free entry point

Their free AI Interviewer covers coding and system design, with over 200 problems. Their site does not say whether it runs by voice, but the price is zero and the pedigree is real. Start here if you are not sure AI mocks are for you, then graduate to unlimited reps somewhere.

3. NeetCode: structured learning with an AI assistant

The best-organized DSA curriculum online (the free Blind 75 and NeetCode 150 lists remain the standard), now with NeetBot for AI hints and debugging help. Pro is $119 a year or $297 lifetime (list price $199 and $599, shown crossed out). Use it for the learning phase; its new AI Coding Interviews are structured AI-assisted sessions for coding only, with voice follow-ups in a Mock Interview mode, rather than a free-form interview.

4. LeetCode Premium: volume, tagged by company

$35 a month (list price $39, shown crossed out) or $159 a year for company-tagged problems and timed assessments. Still the deepest problem bank. Its weakness is unchanged: it never makes you speak, and the interview is spoken. Drill here, rehearse elsewhere.

5. DesignGurus: courses with AI mocks bundled

The annual plan at $373 includes all Grokking courses plus 5 AI coding mock interviews a year. Reasonable if you want curriculum and light practice in one bill; 5 mocks a year is calibration, not volume.

6. ChatGPT and Claude: the free study partner

Genuinely good at explaining why your solution is O(n²), generating variations of a pattern, and quizzing you on concepts. Two things they cannot do: run a timed voice session with an editor and execution, and push back mid-solution the way an interviewer does. Use them for understanding, not rehearsal. (We wrote a full guide on practicing mock interviews with AI.)

7. Final Round AI and the copilot category: know what you are risking

Tools that feed you answers during real interviews (Final Round AI's Interview Copilot, $300 a year, shown as $25 a month, is the best known) sell confidence, but using one in a live interview violates most companies' policies, detection keeps improving, and a dependency that fails under pressure fails at the worst possible moment. Their mock features are fine; the live-use pitch is the problem.

Which should you try first?

How to combine them

  1. Learn patterns on NeetCode (free lists first).
  2. Drill on LeetCode free tier; add Premium for company targeting.
  3. Rehearse out loud with unlimited AI mocks on DevInterview.AI: this is the step most people skip and the reason strong solvers still fail interviews.
  4. Use ChatGPT or Claude between sessions to understand mistakes.
  5. Never bring a copilot into a real interview.

FAQ

Can ChatGPT prepare me for coding interviews?

For understanding, yes: it explains complexity, generates practice variations, and quizzes concepts well. For rehearsal, no: it cannot run a timed voice session with a real editor and code execution, and it does not push back mid-solution like an interviewer. Use it for study and a purpose-built voice tool for practice.

Are AI interview copilots cheating?

Using a real-time copilot during an actual interview violates most companies' interview policies and can rescind offers when detected. Practicing with AI tools beforehand is legitimate and widely encouraged; the line is live assistance in the real interview.

Do AI mock interviews actually work?

They train the skills that silent practice cannot: explaining your approach out loud, managing time, and responding to follow-up questions. Consistent scoring across sessions also makes progress measurable. They complement drilling; they do not replace learning data structures and algorithms.

What are the best free AI tools for coding interview prep?

interviewing.io's free AI interviewer, DevInterview.AI's free first interview (no card required), NeetCode's free Blind 75 and NeetCode 150 lists with video explanations, and the free tiers of ChatGPT and Claude for concept study.
